Did you know that You're tracked by your Smartphone?

In today’s article, we have to discuss the recent trending topic called app tracking. This one is gaining popularity recently because of Apple Inc. Apple latest iOS 14.5 facilitates a new feature called ATT (App Tracking Transparency).

Bet Wait! Before this we have to know what is app tracking and why is it gaining popularity? To answer the first question, what is App tracking? We have to look at our previous article’s (IoB) question section. In that article, I had explained one situation for advertising based on our search history. If you understand that situation, then app tracking is a very simple term for you.

Let’s come to the technical term of definition for app tracking is nothing but tracking and evaluating app usage on your mobile devices. This data includes the number of downloads, the type of device used, operating system, languages, and mobile operator, as well as the numerous events during the actual usage of the apps. Bu how these collected data are used? Basically, these findings are used to analyze the app's performance and popularity, potential marketing, and advertising.

The popular app tracking tool used by most of the organizations are none other than our Google Analytics, but other types of app tracking tools are available in the market for app tracking.

Now all of you understand what is app tracking and example for app tracking tool then move on to the next question why is it gaining popularity today?

The answer to this question will also be answered in our previous article, but here I elaborate it in detail through the situation.

Let us say your smartphone location app stores the details about your daily movements, in this situation, the data collected by the location app is not only used by the location app but also used by other apps that have permission for location access. But you have no way of knowing why the app collects those data and whether the information is sold or shared by other companies.

According to this, when information that we put in the world for one purpose but is used for another without known by the user. This is done in-app tracking.

To overcome this limitation, Apple Inc launches a new feature call ATT (App Tracking Transparency) in iPhone (iOS 14.5).  Using this feature, every time if you have installed the new app then it will ask your permission about app tracking. It is only for iPhone users. Then what the others can do?

Here I list down some of my suggestion for you:

1)   Install adblocker on browser

2)   Use private browser especially the private centric browsers, available in play store.

3)   Install tracking blocker.
