The Game Changer: 30 minutes of charging will make us to travel around the world!!

After seeing the title you’re all amused, right? Because how is it possible? Is it true? 30 minutes of charging will make us travel around the world? You’re joking, right? It is impossible! These are the entire thing running on your mind right. But it is not a joke, it is a little true and little false. But how is it possible? Yes, there is a new type of battery technology research is going on to make the better battery that makes it possible.

Here I explain that research in a simple term for you. First, we have to know the name of that new battery; it is called a Solid-state battery. Now the technical definition of Solid-State Battery is a battery technology that uses solid electrodes and solid electrolytes instead of using liquid or polymer gel electrolytes that are found in the lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries which are used in most electronic devices.

I think the above definition is a little more complicated for you right. So, hereafter I will explain it in simple terms but before that, we must know the working process of the battery. Because batteries are playing a vital role in our daily life. We can say that without batteries the earth will stop its rotation because all the electronic devices around us use the battery for its proper working. Through the above line, you all know that how the battery is important in our daily life. But here we discuss only the batteries used in electronic vehicles. Basically, there are two types of batteries

  1. Lithium – ion
  2. Lithium – polymer

But the working process of both these is the same. So now we came to the working process of batteries.

Currently, used batteries are consist of four parts: cathode, anode, electrolyte, and separator. The cathode and anode are the electrodes. Our battery’s electrical current is produced when electrons are passed from the negatively charged anode to the positively charged cathode. So the role of the two electrodes is to produce an electric current. The electrolyte solution allows positively charged ions to flow between the two electrodes. This balances the flow of the electrons. Finally, the separator keeps the two electrodes apart and prevents the battery from short-circuiting.

Through those definitions, you understand the working process of batteries. At the same time, this one consists of lots of limitations. Here I list down some of them:

  • It uses the liquid electrolyte, sometimes causes short-circuiting on batteries, which consequently leads to dangerous explosions.
  • Because it is explosive, so we need the additional security measurements for it. This will consequently increase the cost.
  • The life span of this type of one is very short in time.
  • We have to charge it frequently.
  • If you want to increase the energy, then the number of batteries is increased which means it takes more space.

The above points are some of the major limitations of lithium – ion or polymer batteries. To overcome this one, in the last two centuries the researchers are doing research on solid-state batteries. Yes, the research is started in the 19th century, now the battery is in its final state. So soon we are all using those ones. But how the solid-state batteries overcome those limitations. I think this question is in your mind right. Right, we have to know this through our limitation points:

  • Solid-state batteries using solid electrolytes which means the risks of fire and explosion are greatly reduced.
  • So you don’t need any additional security measurements and no extra cost for it.
  • Compared to li-ion batteries, the solid-state batteries have more life which is double or triple the current number.
  • It takes only less space.

Through those lines, all of you know that it will bring a drastic change in our daily life. Just imagine if our smartphone has this type of battery, once you charge it then takes two or three days for the next charge. That sounds very attractive right. But if it wants to see it, then all we do is to wait and watch.

I think through the real-time example, you are all understanding the concept better. Then what do you think about it?
